Many Californians have long complained that, despite the state’s vast riches, California’s per-student funding is low compared to other states. And that used to be true. But now, the state ranks 13th among states in per-student spending in 2022-23, the latest available data. The Golden State distributes its money more equitably than all other states except Utah.
