Airbnb is following the verification requirements in New York City’s host registration law, but it could be doing more to prevent the spread of illegal listings, according to the Mamdani administration.

“Airbnb complies with the verification requirements of Local Law 18, and while the company could support New York City hosts by preventing verified legal listings from being changed to offer illegal stays, nothing in existing law requires it do so,” Office of Special Enforcement Executive Director Christian Klossner told Skift.
