India is taking its first serious step toward commercial aircraft manufacturing, and the move could reshape how travelers reach the country’s smaller cities. Adani Defence and Aerospace and Brazilian planemaker Embraer Tuesday announced plans to explore building a domestic regional transport aircraft (RTA) ecosystem, aligning with the government’s push to localize aviation supply chains and expand regional air connectivity.
The proposed collaboration will also study local assembly, supply-chain development, MRO (maintenance, repair and overhaul), and pilot training. The partnership is a strategic complement to the government’s regional connectivity program, UDAN, and the broader Make in India agenda.
Adani said the companies will reveal timelines and other specifics “in the next couple of months.”
