Air Cambodia has placed its first order with Boeing. Announced at the Singapore Airshow on Tuesday, the agreement includes 10 firm orders for the Boeing 737 Max 8 and options for another 10 planes.
The deal is enormous for Air Cambodia, which currently operates a fleet of just six narrowbody and turboprop aircraft. More broadly, it marks a significant moment for the country’s aviation sector and offers insight into how Cambodia is positioning itself for the next phase of tourism growth.
Air Cambodia was established by the Cambodian government, and its fleet decisions are closely aligned with national transport and tourism priorities. The order comes as policymakers and industry officials look to improve air connectivity while Cambodia’s inbound tourism numbers remain uneven.
The airline says the Boeing jets will support new direct services across North and Southeast Asia, expanding beyond its current network.&
