
Capacity is the biggest challenge facing the growth of high-speed rail in Europe, a top Eurostar executive said Tuesday at the Skift Megatrends event in London, warning that rising demand from travelers is straining infrastructure.
“We need stations that are big enough, where we have the space to process passengers,” said François Le Doze, chief commercial officer of the railway. “There is congestion in the station. There’s congestion where your train gets prepared.”
Le Doze pointed to staffing shortages and overcrowded tracks as persistent problems.
