IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers has stepped down with immediate effect, the airline announced on Tuesday, ending a three-and-a-half year tenure with the Indian carrier.
The airline said co-founder and managing director Rahul Bhatia will assume interim control of India’s largest airline until a permanent successor is named.
Elbers, the former KLM chief whom Bhatia directly recruited in 2022, was handed a clear mandate from the outset to transform IndiGo from a domestic giant into a global aviation player.
