New entry requirements from the European Union have prompted lengthy wait times for international visitors. Trade groups warn that a full implementation, set to start later this week, could make lines even longer.
The European Union is set to fully launch its new “Entry/Exit System” (EES) by April 10 after kickstarting a gradual rollout across the 29-member Schengen area in October. Under the new border control system:
Travelers from outside the EU visiting for up to 90 days must provide fingerprints and facial image upon entry.
Other personal information is also required upon entry, including data from travel documents, the dates and locations for each entry and exit, and information on whether a traveler has been refused entry.
