Video Q&A: Gus Mattammal, candidate for state superintendent of public instruction

Gus Mattammal, a candidate for California superintendent of public instruction, the nonpartisan elected office that currently oversees California’s public schools, did not participate in EdSource’s virtual candidate forums in April.

To give readers a chance to hear from him, EdSource invited him to answer similar questions in a separate video interview.

Note: To qualify for the forums, candidates had to have been elected to public office in a role that involved shaping education policy, overseeing schools or both. Six of the 10 candidates on the ballot met that requirement.
